The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Mrs. Margaret Ladipe, has cautioned students of the institution to shun cultism, saying it is illegal to operate or belong to such secret societies.
In a chat with Campus Square, Mrs Ladipe said any contravention of the College regulation will lead to expulsion and possible criminal prosecution.
Mrs. Margaret said unlike before, the College is now free and safe from the menace of cultism, noting that far reaching measures have been adopted by the institution's management to curtail the menace.
The Rector urged the students to join societies that are registered with the Students Affairs Unit. “There are different types of societies which students are encouraged to join, some of which include departmental associations, state associations and socio-cultural associations,” she stated.
To foster a harmonious co-existence, Mrs. Margaret said the College also encourages freedom of worship and association in religious activities, advising the students to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations pertaining to the use of the College premises for religious worship.
Yaba College of Technology recently matriculated 2,246 students into National Diploma and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes that spread across the six schools in the college.
