The Directorate of Students Affairs (DSA) and School of Communication and Information Technology (SCIT) of the Federal Polytechnic Offa recently honoured their former members of staff, who are either retiring or being transferred to other establishments.
DSA, led by its Director, Mr. Lateef Olatunji, hosted Alhaja Bisilat Oyinlola, who recently retired as deputy registrar, having spent 35 years as a Public Servant.
Also, SCIT rolled out the red carpet for its members, who have just retired or transferred from the polytechnic.
The retirees are Mrs. Oladimeji (Olorui), immediate past Head of Secretarial Administration Department; Mr. E. O. Bello, former lecturer in French section, Secretarial Administration Department and Mr. J. O. Olaoye, former Head of Library and Information Science Department.
Those that were transferred include Mallam Abdulkadir Oba Laaro, former lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication who was transferred to the University of Ilorin; Mr. A. A. Salman, former lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science who was also transferred to the university, and Mr. Biodun Latilo, who had relocated to United States of America.
Oyinlola, who was fondly referred to by the student union executives as Aluta grandmother, was given a befitting send-off ceremony by DSA.
Present at the event were the immediate past director of the directorate, who is now the deputy rector in charge of administration, Pastor John Ayeni and Deputy Registrar, Mr. Joshua Balogun, who succeeded Oyinlola.
Others were former and incumbent staff of DSA and other departments, who have had a working relationship with Oyinlola.
It was a period of testimonies as well-wishers poured encomiums on Oyinlola, describing her as a rare being, who dedicated her strength and energy to the growth of the institution.
Also commending Oyinlola for her contribution to the growth of the institution, was Pastor Ayeni, under whom she also served as Deputy Registrar. He attributed the major part of the achievements recorded when he was the director to Oyinlola’s burning quest for success.
Other staff present at the occasion also praised the senior public servant. They went down memory lane to describe her as a true mother, who had smooth relationship not only with her superiors, but also her subordinates. She worked with them with a lot of humility and respect.
At the send forth ceremony organised by the School of Communication, the Rector, Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo, who was represented by the Deputy Rector, (Academics), Mr. Eghe Igbinehi, commended the idea of organising the send forth ceremony as a way of showing appreciation to the former staff for their contributions to the growth of the institution.
