'WAUG Hosting Will Boost Nigeria’s Image'

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services) of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Albert  B. Olayemi, has solicited the full support of Nigerians as the varsity prepares to host the  13th edition of the West African University Games (WAUG) in 2011.

Referring to the poor performance of the Super Eagles in the South Africa 2010 World Cup  competition, Prof. Olayemi, who is also the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of  WAUG 2011, added that the success of the international event at the University of Ilorin  will redeem the 'dwarfed image' of Nigeria in sports.

Olayemi made this submission while speaking with journalists in Ilorin after a meeting of  the Chairmen of the various sub-committees of the LOC.

The Professor of Microbiology posited that ‘the University of Ilorin is fully prepared and  poised, not only to host the event, but also to raise the scale, thereby making a mark that  will pose a lasting challenge to future hosts.

The LOC Chairman added that the students of the university are fully involved in the  preparation.  He commended what he called their “impressive outing” during the inauguration  of the LOC in which they were also represented and charged them for more commitment.
