Nigerian youths will constitute great assets in nation building when properly developed and mobilized, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga has said.
Speaking on the topic Youth Restiveness and Future Elections, Brig-Gen. Tsiga said Nigerian youths will constitute great asset in nation building when properly developed and mobilized but would become soldiers of destruction when left unguarded.
He said checking youth restiveness is of utmost important to avoid its negative implication on development activities such as conduct of election.
The Director-General of NYSC said the use of corps members to carry out some of the electoral duties by the government was a very wise decision because corps members are graduates, educated, knowledgeable, skilful and patriotic citizens.
According to him, “corps members are serving in states other than their states of origin which immune them from being enmeshed in local politics”, adding that section 12 of the NYSC Bye Laws forbids a serving corps members from taking part in partisan politics. He, therefore, recommended that timely payment of corps member’s dues, adequate provision of logistics, and motivation of corps members among others will enhance electoral process in the country
