Greatest Nigerian Students, Great! Here comes another edition of Students Congress. Last week, a question on How Can Examination Malpractices Be Eradicated? was asked. This week, we present you the views of some members of the Congress.
A Post-Graduate student of University of Lagos, Comrade Shukroh Odufuye, said to eradicate examination malpractices in Nigeria, government should decongest the classroom so that the students can be monitored properly. Secondly, examination board members should be cautious, loyal and discreet. As for Teachers, they need to be more disciplined and avoid teaching students in the examination hall.
Another member, a student of Mass Communication from Lagos State University (LASU), Comrade Oladipo Oluwaseun, said examination malpractices is a cankerworm that has eaten deeply into the educational system of Nigeria. To eradicate it, all hands must be on deck. Parents and teachers should insist on doing the right thing. Government and private school proprietors must employ qualified teachers, not quacks.
In addition, Comrade Oluwasseun said instructional materials should be provided in schools. This, he said, will help students to assimilate easily and shun examination malpractices.
“In a nutshell, teachers’ salary should be increased, so that they wouldn’t be tempted to collect money from parents or students because some teachers are major perpetrators of examination malpractices,” he added.
Speaking on the issue, a student of Accountancy from Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo Campus, Comrade Abdul Kabeer Kuye, said the best way to eradicate examination malpractices is the use of computer for conducting examination. Several institutions have successfully used it and it has, to some extent, reduced examination mal-practices.
Comrade Kuye added that the result of examinations must be instantly released to avoid malpractices while the result is being delayed.
Dear members of this Congress, you can still send your views on this topic to the email address or phone number above. Your views count a lot. Together, we can sanitise Nigerian education system.
