President Warns Students Against Thuggery

As the 2011 general elections approaches, the corner,  President of the Students’ Union Government, (SUG), Federal College of Education Technical (FCET), Comrade Ayorinde Idris Abolore, has warned Nigerian students not to allow themselves to be used   as thugs.

While speaking with Campus Square, Comrade Idris, popularly known as Hallowmah, said the main objective of being in school is to achieve academic excellence and not to be used for thuggery and other vices.

He, therefore, called on Nigerian students to shun vices if they want to be somebody in life.

According to him, gone were the days when politicians bribed the SUG executives with money in order to mobilise members for political thuggery and rigging during elections.

The final year student of Computer Technical Science (Education) called on his colleagues not to allow the politicians to induce them with money no matter the amount.

Comrade Idris commended the efforts of the governor of Lagos State, Raji Fashola, (SAN) for job well done in the state, especially in the area of education, urging him to do more.

.On cultism, Com. Idris said the problem cannot be totally eradicated in Nigerian institutions. He, however, said the authority of the college, in conjunction with the students union have been able to curb cultism.

"We have not heard of cases of someone being shot dead or hit by gun men on our campus. We have been able to achieve this due to tight security on campus. Apart from the security agency set-up by the school management, we also have our own private security team among the students.

He, however, stated that water supply and electricity have been two major challenges being faced by the students in the school and efforts have been made to achieve a lasting solution.

“We have been doing everything possible to ensure that water supply is regular. But, as for electricity, it is a national issue,” the student leader said.
