The Vice President (1st), Students’ Union Government (SUG), Yaba College of Technology, Comrade Kamoli Liasu Olayinka has said the era of Aluta (struggle) in Nigeria institutions is gone. “It is now the era of dialogue,” he stated.
In a chat with Campus Square, Comrade Liasu said instead of aluta, dialogue between the students’ union and management has been advocated for the smooth running of the school.
According to Liasu, “from the training we are receiving now, we are taught not to adopt aluta in finding solution to problems but to dialogue with the school management. Yabatech is the best in terms of security of students and their properties,” adding that this was why the management of the college, in collaboration with the students’ union, has provided security men, such as Cadet Man ‘O’ War on campus.
The ND II student of Statistics said since the administration of the new rector, the hostel facilities of the college has been improved.
He, however, said that the problems of electricity and water supply were still persisting and believes that with time, it would become a thing of the past.
Comrade Liasu said one of his administration’s priorities was to organise free tutorials for students, especially ND 1 and HND 1 students. This, according to him, would assist them obtain good grades in their courses.
He said getting sponsors for the execution of some of his administration’s projects has been difficult, and called on corporate organisations to assist the union.
He urged new students not to join bad gangs on campus and remain focused in their studies, reasoning that their studies should be the primary aim of being on campus.
