Barely two months after the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Lagos State University, Professor Lateef Hussein, was held hostage in his office by the institution’s Non-Academic Staff of Universities (NASU) and students, the VC was again disgraced at the institution on Monday.
Prof. Hussein, who had not visited the Campus since the incident occurred in July, made an unexpected appearance at early hours of Monday, but his presence was greeted by angry staff and students, who seemed to have been waiting for him.
Campus Square gathered that immediately the VC, who came in through the back gate (known as Conoil Gate), the angry staff and students started singing protest songs, while some even threw sachet water at him.
During the show of shame, which lasted for almost three hours, the aggrieved NASU members and students called for the immediate removal of Prof. Hussein, labelling him as a slave master.
Sources in the school disclosed to Campus Square that Prof. Hussein had visited the institution in a bid to make an announcement, but was surprised to see the extent at which the people are still bitter and angry at him.
According to a NASU members, “Prof. Hussein knows that he is guilty. If not, why did he sneak in through the back gate? This is shocking, because he usually takes the main gate. He has betrayed the trust and confidence we have in him, so all we want now is his removal.”
NASU is protesting the poor working condition of its members in LASU, accusing Prof. Hussein of victimising and treating them like slaves.
