Fashola To Reward Deserving Corps Members

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has promised to reward corps members who display their loyalty in serving the state at the end of their service year.


The governor, who spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2009 Batch ‘B’ Stream one orientation course for corps members deployed to Lagos State, said a reward system has been put in place to honour deserving corps members who excelled  at the end of the service year.

“There shall be no excuse, therefore, for those who may fail to live up to public expectations as agents of change in their respective host communities,” said Fashola, whose speech was read by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Tola Kasali.

The governor assured them that all its agencies, parastatals and schools have been encouraged to always accept corps members for posting and not reject them, while promising to make their stay in the state memorable.

Fashola reminded the corps members of their responsibilities to the people of the state.

 He said: “All of you are expected to go to your places of primary assignment with determination to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic and technological advancement of the various communities you are posted to serve.

“You are to avail yourselves of the various empowerment programmes and opportunities that will be put in place in order for you to acquire more skills and become self-reliant and be employers of labour after your service year.

“I would urge you to ensure that your proven expertise and creative abilities are fully harnessed toward making Lagos the best city of our time, especially during this brief stay of yours in the state,” he added.

Kasali, whose speech was read by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adekunle Odubela, urged the corps members to be ready to carry out the task of nation building in their respective places of primary assignment.

He pleaded with employers of labour to accept corps members posted to them and assign challenging duties capable of assisting them to enable them acquire the desired experience they needed, as they build their career.

“I also urge you to encourage our corps members to involve themselves in noble and concrete projects of community development to help consolidate current efforts of government.

“This state can only develop faster if the energy of these youths are properly channelled towards sustainable development in areas such as environmental sanitation, creation of awareness of HIV/AIDS pandemic, mass literacy campaign, among others,” he stated.
