4 NYSC Members, 2 Councillors Docked

The four members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and a councillor  arrested on  15 January, 2010 for diverting registration  materials were on  Wednesday docked before the Calabar Chief Magistrate’s court.

Unilorin Expels 22 Students For Misconduct

In an effort to sanitise the university environment, the authorities of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, have expelled twenty two students for various acts of misconduct. The students had appeared before the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC) where they could not defend the allegations of misconduct leveled against them by the panel. 

How ASUU Strike Paralysed Academic Activities In 2010

The year 2010 was a blessing to some people while to others, particularly students, it was a setback for their academics. The protracted strike action paralysed the nation’s education sector and between July and December 2010, academic activities in most Nigerian institutions faced challenges ever than before.

JAMB Sanctions More Varsities

The axe of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board [JAMB], has descended on more institutions, particularly in the Eastern part of the country.

Though universities like the Imo State University (IMSU) and Abia State University (ABSU) called off their strike before the Christmas break, they didn’t escape the wrath of JAMB as the examination board has exclude their names from its 2011/2012 admission exercise.

They were excluded from the admission  exercise  due to the   six-month strike  they embarked upon. As a result of this, the affected universities will not admit students in 2012. 

AUN Inducts Jambites

No fewer than 160 Jambites were inducted at the American University of Nigerian (AUN), Yola, on Monday.

The institutions Public Relations Director, Mr. Abba Tahir, in a statement said the orientation period was dedicated to the new students so as to introduce them to the school’s programmes and facilities.

Tahir said the programme would introduce the students and their parents to  the operations of the American system of education, which is different from the Nigerian system.

Anambra Govt Sacks ANSU VC

The over five month-old Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike in  universities in southeast Nigeria has led to the  removal of  Prof. Chukwuneye Anene, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Anambra State University, ANSU.

IBB Varsity Bans Hugging On Campus

If  you are one of those guys who are fond of hugging ladies on campuses, then the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Niger State, is not a place for  you. Authorities of the institution have banned hugging among the opposite sex on the campus and its environs.

UNILAG Babe Grabs Lagbaja

It was during an inaugural lecture held at the main  auditorium of the  University of  Lagos in December last year.

With the theme Lighting Beyond Illumination, the lecture was delivered by the  Dean Faculty of Arts in UNILAG, Prof  Duro Oni.

FUTA Convocates

The Federal University of Technology, Ado-Ekiti, FUTA, recently held its  21st and 22nd convocation  ceremony.

Vice Chancellor of the  university, Prof, Adebisi Balogun said 2,864 students of the  institution graduated with various degrees during the combined   convocation. 

He said 33 students were awarded first class, 818 second class upper, 1,319 second class lower, 621 had third  class while 73 graduated.
