Corps Member Writes On Muslims, Media

A National Youth Corps member, Abdur Rasheed Abubakar, has launched his much awaited book entitled Muslims And The Threats Of The Media.

Speaking with Campus Square, Rasheed stated that the book is an attempt to rescue the youths from dedicating their precious time to watching immoral movies and reading pornographic books, which have terribly affected their life styles.

“The majority of people believe that watching television, especially movies, is a form of relaxation, but it is obviously a lazy form of relaxation, which does not allow them to think creatively. This is one of the reasons why I have decided to write the book,” he stated.

The author, who until his call to serve his fatherland in Kano State was a reporter with P.M.News, added that the book will help to correct the wrong notion that Islam is a religion that preaches fanaticism, extremism and terrorism as it is being portrayed by the western media.

He noted that, “Islam, in  its true meaning, is a religion of peace, love and tolerance.”

Rasheed also alleged that the media have not been objective in the reportage of Islam and the Muslims, adding that, “this may be attributed to lack of knowledge about Islam by the journalists or deliberate attempt to give Islam bad names.”

He, therefore, calls on Nigerian journalists, especially the Christians to seek the knowledge of Islam because knowing about it will enable  them to report Islam without sentiments.

The 105 page book, with pictures and illustrations, could be purchased at the newspaper’s stand or contact  Campus Square for more information.
