It is no more news that the House of Representatives has ordered the Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission (NUC), to abolish the Post-Universities Matriculation Examination conducted by universities in the country, but Students’ Congress’ investigation revealed that most universities still conduct the examination in contempt of the House directive.
The universities have alleged cases of examination malpractices in the conduct of public examinations, including the newly introduced Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), while the lawmakers have, however, said that the examination is not only a means of exploiting the students, but also a burden to them and their parents.
One of the examples cited was a case where students who reside in Lagos have to travel to the North or East for Post-UME examination, spending two to three days in a state where they have no relative and at the end, some of them would be denied admission.
Dear congress members, do you support universities to conduct Post-UME despite the introduction of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)? If yes or no, state your reasons and what do you think could be done to ensure better entrance examination that is free of malpractices? Send your answers to the e-mail and phone number above.
