Footwear Programme For Ekiti Students

The Ekiti in Diaspora for Economic and Social Development (EDESC), a non-politically aligned and non-profit organisation of Ekiti Indigenes, has launched a new programme for students of public schools in Ekiti State.

According to spokesperson of the organisation, Babajide Alabi, the programme, titled Footstep to a better tomorrow, which is to be delivered in two phases, involves provisions of a pair of sandals and one text book to each student in public elementary schools from grade one to grade six.

He said the programme will be unveiled at an economic forum in Ado Ekiti later in the year.

The First Ekiti Global Forum organised by EDESC that will take place between December 11 and 12, 2009 is titled “Attaining Sustainable Socio Economic Policies: Strategies and Best Practices for Successful Implementation. The Time is now”.

According to the co-chairman of the organisation committee, Messrs. Ola Jobi and Yemi Ayodele Ayeni, the forum which will attract renowned speakers from all over the world, is proposed to fashion out a sustainable socioeconomic policies for the state.

Noting with regret that so many summits on developing economic potential of Ekiti State have not been implemented by successive state governments, they, however, reiterated that the forum will lay out strategies for a successful implementation of the outcome of the summit.

The chairmen pointed out that the forum will bring together all major economic players in Ekiti State with the sole aim of moving the state forward economically, stating that the organisation’s passion is to see a new Ekiti State in this 21st century reclaiming her eminent position as the Nigeria Fountain of Knowledge.
