Marketing Varsity Berths

The Institute of Direct Marketing Of Nigeria – IDMN has concluded arrangements to set up the world’s first International Marketing University. The university, which is to be called The International University of Marketing (IUM), is the first university of marketing in the world, set up by any professional marketing Institute. 


  The historic move by the institute is its contribution to the development of marketing science and knowledge in the world.  The International University of Marketing is Nigeria and Africa’s contribution to the global development of marketing knowledge in the world.

  In a press statement signed by the Registrar/CEO Fidelis White Nwankwo, PhD, “the Institute believes that the marketing university is an idea which time has come and that Africa has indeed come of age in the field of marketing”.

The IDMN also believes that the onus is on it as a professional body, to lead Africa’s effort in global marketing to make outstanding and world class contributions in the field of marketing. The university will be run to meet global standards obtainable anywhere in the developed economies of the world. This also explains why the Institute has developed over 200 new academic and professional marketing courses that have never been run by any university in the world.

These courses will be offered in the marketing university at bachelors, masters and doctoral levels. Currently, new developed courses are currently being test-run as certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and post-graduate diploma programmes in the Institute’s African Marketing Business School, AMBS. The school, which is currently admitting students for its various PGD, Diploma and certificate programmes will be an integral part of the IMU when it commences operations.

The AMBS will be the business school of the International University of Marketing. Professor Julius Onah, West Africa’s First Marketing Professor and the first black African Professor of Marketing has been appointed the Vice Chancellor of the varsity. The Institute of Direct Marketing has also set up also a high-powered committee of eminent members, who are now working assiduously to ensure that all the requirements of the Nigerian University Commission for the take off of the university is met. Environmental impact assessment of the location has been concluded by the appointed consultants and their report is being considered by the Committee. The IDMN currently runs the highest number of courses by any such institute in the world.

This is because the institute’s current course of 400 diploma and certificate programmes is the highest number of courses to be offered by any marketing institute in the world. Apart from the 400 diploma and certificate courses, the institute also has 68 short-term courses for companies and implant programmes available. These are all different from the institute’s 21 professional examination programme courses. These programmes are in line with the institute’s plan to be the best in the world of marketing.
